A message from the Campaign's creator...
As a former foster child I know what itís like to have a dream and not to believe in myself enough to follow a it. It has taken me a very long time to believe I could do anything I want. A few years ago I followed my dreams and became a Fitness Specialist. My career has led me to more time to follow more of my dreams. I have been starting to travel and hiking more and more. As long as I can remember I have always wanted to go see the Great Wall of China. I found a wonderful Trekking Challenge that is 8 days of hiking, camping and staying in villages along the Great Wall. One of the challenges is to raise money for a charity of our choice. Right away I thought about the The Orangewood Resource Center (ORC) program. The ORC helps former Foster Children by assisting them with services needed to become independent. Helping them with housing, finding jobs, college, using computers, food and hygiene products. This is a program very dear to my heart and I hope you will help me by donating to these young adults that where once like me. Over time I hope they too will get a chance to follow their dreams.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Orangewood Foundation invites you to join us in giving Orange County foster youth the support, resources and encouragement they need to become happy, self-sufficient adults. Did you know that in Orange County alone, there are almost 3,000 children in the foster care system at any time? Of those, over 200 will age out of the system (emancipate) at age 18 this year. Without help, their future looks bleak. Approximately 65% will emancipate with no place to live. Less than 2% will graduate from college (46% will not even graduate from high school). For every dollar donated, $0.90 goes directly to Orangewood programs focused on education, employment, housing, life skills and basic needs. In our 30+ year history we have helped over 74,000 kids find their wings and soar. Beyond our programs, for thousands of foster children Orangewood means “family,” “opportunity” and “hope.”
