Thanks To Our Volunteers
At Orangewood, we love our volunteers! They come up with creative and generous ways to show our youth that the community cares about them. Below are just some of our more recent examples.

  • Spare Change for Change 2015
We would like to take a moment to say thank you to a wonderful young lady who has been working for years to make a difference with us. When she was just 12 years old, Isabel Bellino started a project to raise money for Orangewood. Her idea - to collect spare change people had lying around and turn it into donations - grew into a full blown organization. Spare Change for Change has collected coins to donate to Orangewood ever since. To date, the organization founded by teens for teens has raised over $7,000 for Orangewood! This was Isabel's last year as club president. She graduated from high school in the spring and is headed to George Washington University in the fall. Thank you for your vision and all your hard work! We wish you the best in your future endeavors!

  • Graduation 2015
Thanks to the help of Orangewood Volunteers, Orange Coast College and NCL Pacific Coast Chapter, we were able to host foster youth graduating from High School or with a GED to a black tie celebration in their honor. During the ceremony youth heard from Master of Ceremony, Chris Simonsen CEO, Orangewood Children's Foundation, special guest speaker, Betsy DeGarmoe, Orange County Department of Education and our graduating youth Paris Davis, also the recipient this years NCL education scholarship. The fun didn't stop there! Thanks to the financial support of NCL Pacific Coast Chapter and others, youth were treated to WikiWiki Shave Ice and Pepinos Italian, along with a yummy desert buffet from Saddleback Church. The youth were able to celebrate their accomplishment and enjoy their evening with dancing, photo memories, games and prizes. As always, we greatly appreciated all the volunteers who helped during and after the event. A very special thank you everyone for helping make this day possible.

  • Boys2Men 2015
Boys2Men transformed teens in foster care and some former foster youth into confident, empowered young men on Saturday, June 6th. Thank you so much to those who helped through our partnership with WHW (Women Helping Women and Men2Work) and to our supporters Cavaricci Foundation and Affiliated Barbershop. It was a great success, this year we had over 44 young men participate and we learned that we have future FBI, CEOs, and even a Record Producer in our presence! Through coaching from our professional volunteers who were matched one-on-with with a youth, today they took their “first step” towards their success. Thank you for your continued support!
  • Belle of the Ball Empowers Over 330 Teens
Belle of the Ball was a huge success thanks to all the sponsors, donors and volunteers. We truly appreciate your help in providing a day of self-esteem and empowerment to Orange County foster youth and disadvantaged teens. When the girls were asked what was the best part of their day, they said: "...was the make-up and self-confidence. ...body image workshop because I learned that even celebrity's have flaws. ...when i went to show off my dress, everyone said I looked beautiful. ...seeing all the other girls. It taught me a profound lesson. Thank you for your kindness!" Your support makes a difference! Thank you to the following sponsors and donors who made Belle of the Ball possible: 44 Women Auxiliary, Cavaricci Foundation, Classic Glamour Dolls, April Love Beauty Academy Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, National Charity League, Newport Coast Mariposa Boutique, Novatar Direct, Orange Coast College Foundation, Snyder Langston, Toshiba America Inc., Amway Nutrilite, Arbonne Int., Pam Levy, Kate Small, Experian, Ralphs Grocery, The White Dress, United Parcel Service, UPS

  • Independent City 2015
Independent City walks teens in foster care through their responsibilities as an independent adult. How to rent an apartment, balance a budget, apply for jobs, and even secure childcare. Volunteers are needed to help run the activities at each city station. Your commitment to these youngsters really makes a difference as most of them do not have a role model or an adult figure they can depend on for guidance and support. You really did an awesome job educating them about life’s responsibilities as an independent adult. It will surely help when they emancipate from foster care as an independent adult.
  • Easter Treat!
Tredway, Lumsdaine & Doyle collected and packaged 25 Easter Baskets for the teens and their children living in the Rising Tide Transitional Living program this week. Baskets included all the essentials - hygiene supplies, school supplies, and of course candy. Thank you so much for the special treat!

  • ILP Holiday Party -
On Thursday, December 13th, Embassy Suites Anaheim hosted the ILP Holiday Party for teens in foster care throughout Orange County. One youth commented that it was "the best party ever!". Volunteers through the Jewish Community Center (JCC) hosted a cookie decorating station. Orangewood volunteers hosted carnival games, a craft station to make stockings, and distributed raffle prizes. AcrA Aerospace also made sure that every teen left with their very own Santa pre-filled stocking that included gift cards, snacks, and other fun treats. Let's not forget the awesome DJ Drama who keeps the music playing!

  • Holiday Cheer Exploded!
Orangewood provided gifts to over 600 children and families in addition to supplying gifts for children staying at the Orangewood Children & Family Center and foster homes throughout Orange County. We needed a lot of help to make this happen as 100% of the gifts come from community donations. Throughout December, volunteers organized, sorted, wrapped, decorated and distributed all gifts. It is quite a task and we thank all 116 volunteers who helped us this year, and know that we NEED YOU AGAIN NEXT YEAR! Thank you all for your support!

Employees from all over Southern California made the drive to help paint the Center. Additionally, the donated funds to help Orangewood provide groceries through the Orangewood Resource Center that helps former foster youth working on independent living. Thank you Avalon and thank you to all your employees!

  • CITrials Held Bright Futures Drive Throughout Southern California
CITrials held a Bright Futures Supply Drive from January - March 2013. They focused their efforts on the needs of emancipated foster youth understanding that during the Holidays many times the teens and young adults are overlooked. The drive was a great success providing clothes, food, hygiene, household goods, and money to support the Orangewood Resource Center. Thank you CITrials!
